John Robshaw

I'm a big fan of what John Robshaw is doing with printed textiles. And looking at them all together on his website is like taking a virtual tour through the villages of Asia, Thailand, India, etc. The technique he has developed allows for human error making each piece feel special and unique. Check out some of my favorites below:

Union Square Artists

I think it takes so much courage to take your art to the streets. Aspiring artists set up all over the city attempting to sell their work and gain a following. Today while strolling through Union Square I had to stop and watch Joe Mangrum create one of his sand installations on the sidewalk. And while they don't last long, it is so cool to watch these "paintings" come together. According to images of his other installations on his website, I caught this one when it was about half way done. He updates his website and Facebook page daily as to where he will be next if you'd like to see him in action.

ABC Carpet & Home

These looked like glittered hydrangeas and I could easily
see them in vases all over my apartment.

If only I had a mantel...

Amazing chandeliers everywhere you look.

Every time I go down to Union Square, I try to pop into ABC Carpet & Home. The multi-floor loft-like space is huge and you can easily get lost exploring. Right now they have Christmas decorations up near the chandelier section and it's just absolutely magical. Check it out if you're in the area.

Celestial Seasonings Mandarin Orange Spice

Today has been rough. Barely got any sleep last night as I have recently been plagued with nightmares, yikes! And woke up not feeling too hot. Had to cancel a lunch date and dinner/movie night with my two girlfriends because of it. My boss's Blackberry and our main server are down so nobody's happy at work. AND...I just looked at the clock and realized I hadn't eaten yet today! Big. Problem.

Enough complaining, that's not what this blog is about.

So I ran across the street to City Market to order the usual and something caught my eye at the register. I'm not a big tea drinker so on a typical day, I wouldn't have noticed this at all. But in the middle of all of the pretty Celestial Seasonings boxes, was a memory from home and I had to have it right away. Mandarin Oriental Spice. If you havent tried it, I highly recommend. My mother used to drink this all the time during the winter and now, inhaling the sweet, spicy aroma at my desk, I am back with her at our old house on Bellwood. Not sure why that house as I'm sure she drank it in all 9 houses that I lived in growing up. But I can see it very clearly and it is no longer a bad day. If a cup of tea can turn my day around like this, you know it's good.

Many Drinks for Sunday Brunch

Sunday brunch in NYC is required, isn't it? And multiple drink options are required for me to enjoy brunch to it's fullest extent. Can't really explain why, but I like it and it makes me happy to see all of these choices on the table.
