Friday Flowers (6)...post-poned

We're heading out to Montauk for the long weekend, I'll be back Tuesday with my Friday Flowers post.  But here's a little preview for you.  Since I'll be out in the Hamptons, I thought the perfect flower to spotlight would be the Hydrangea.  They are everywhere out there and I hope to get some good pics.   Here are some I snapped last year outside of the Ralph Lauren store, more to come Tuesday and have a happy, fun, delightful, joyous long weekend!

Hippie Treats

Last night KTW cooked a yummy and healthy meal for us.  Steak salad with cucumbers, red peppers, asparagus, carrots, etc., it's what Elaine would call, the big salad.  Anyway, we felt pretty good about eating such a lo-cal dinner that we indulged ourselves for dessert.  And not just any dessert, Emack and Bolio's.  I've lived in this neighborhood for a year now but have tried my best to stay out of this place, it's tough, you can smell the sugar cones from three blocks away.  Once inside, I knew I was in trouble.  Knowing that this exists only four short blocks away is dangerous.  The images below will explain.

However, before I get to those, I wanted to share a little history on the place that I learned this morning.  From Wikipedia:

"Emack & Bolio's is a chain of ice cream stores based in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The chain was founded by Robert Rook, a lawyer and self-declared hippie who has worked closely with the homeless, Vietnam war protesters, civil and gay rights advocates, and numerous rock bands such as Aerosmith, U2, Boston, The Cars, and James Brown. Emack and Bolio's was founded in 1975, three years before Ben and Jerry's used the concept of a hippie ice cream store. There are now a few stores in other states, including New York, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, and Illinois.  The mascot is now a red-eyed moose whose name is Stoney.

The store was named after two homeless men for whom Robert Rook did pro bono work, who asked that the ice cream shop be named after them.  Emack and Bolio were mascots of a sort for the first store."

Kind of interesting right?  I like going places like this that have a cool history, and chocolate espresso ice cream...

Sticking to it's rock-n-roll roots.

Cones covered in rice kripies and marshmallow, fruit loops, you name it.

Some dork nice young lady with all of the different ice cream flavors.  Mmmm, nutella hot topping.

Rent the Runway

Last Thursday night, I went to an event for NextStep Fitness at Christies.  This organization was created to deliver essential fitness services to the underserved community of para- and tetraplegics, as well as others with neurological impairments, in greater Los Angeles County.  The event was to increase awareness of their mission as well as raise funding in order to expand and bring their rehab facilities to cities all over the country.  A great and important effort, please check out their website for more info.

I felt like wearing something special that night so I logged into my new account on Rent the Runway.  I've been a member for a few months but this was my first experience ordering from them.  I couldn't have been more pleased.  My order was hand delivered to my office in the black bag below the day of the party.  Inside was a black box with a note from the owners and my beautiful Roarke necklace which I rented for four days.  The rate to rent is obviously way cheaper than buying and since it was sort of a statement piece, it seemed reasonable to rent since I'd only wear a few times.  The compliments I got also made the rental totally worth it in my mind, Roarke has some truly beautiful pieces.  Sunday, when my four days were up, I dropped the necklace in the provided padded pre-paid postage package (that's a lot of alliteration!) and then to the mailbox.  Easy, breezy, beautiful...

Sorry the pic is blurry, another bberry pic...man I need want an Iphone...

A Nice Little Saturday

Two weeks ago, after a gorgeous New York Saturday filled with tennis, laying out in the park, and later, drinks with friends, the man and I walked over to the Spotted Pig for a yummy meal.  On the way, I had to grab a few shots of this beautiful ivy-covered West Village townhouse.  Isn't it perfection?

All Over My Apartment...

A few months ago, in a Gilt Group frenzy, I bought these adorable pink, gold-rimmed teacups.  Unfortunately, the fact that I don't regularly have tea parties, or even drink tea for that matter, didn't seem to register.  Anyway, since this impulse buy, I've come up with another way to enjoy these sweet and dainty cups.  Vases!  Currently, I have four placed in various locations of my apartment with these ginormous white roses sitting in them.  They are ever so lovely and the impulse buy is much less regrettable when put to use this way.

Friday Flowers (5)

Baby's breath is today's choice for Friday Flowers.  No longer just a "filler flower,"  these white, puffy clouds of tiny flowers are an inexpensive yet chic way to decorate.  Give it a chance, it's not so bad...

Hump Day Hues (1)

I'm starting a new weekly feature focusing on colors.  Although most of my wardrobe consists mostly of black, (yes, it's true what they say about New Yorkers) I am so very intrigued by color.  Each Wednesday, I'll create a post based on a color that has recently been inspiring to me, this week it's lovely purple.

I just found out that Le Creuset now has two shades of purple cookware, Cassis and Lilac.  Although I love my bright red, I'm so drawn to these collections, I can mix right??
