Friday Flowers Returns!

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
-excerpt from "In Flanders Field" written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Although Veterans Day was yesterday, I'd like to dedicate this post today to those Veterans who have fought for our freedom, something I surely take for granted everyday.  Each year on Veterans Day, many wear poppy pins to remember those who lost their lives while fighting for their country.  During WWI, fields of red poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields and therefore, they represent an appropriate reminder of the blood shed during wartime.  I've included a few images of this symbolism below.

These bright red flowers are certainly bold and worn on Veterans Day, they make a clear reference to those who deserve to be honored for their service.  I don't mean to make light of what they represent, but I also want to show below how their vivid pop of color can make your next special celebration even more vibrant.  Knowing what the image of the flowers evoke would be a meaningful way to recognize those in the military who have been especially important to you.  My grandfather passed away two years ago this January.  He was a wonderful man who showed the people he cared about how much he loved them in the most special and generous ways.  I miss him often and the day that I eventually walk down the aisle, his absence will be particularly felt.  He was a WWII Veteran and once injured in the war, received the honorable Purple Heart for his service.  I am proud of his dedication to his country.  If there's someone in your life who you feel the same way about, consider these next images as a way to celebrate and give gratitude for what these Veterans have gone through to protect us all.
